President defines eradication of corruption as one of the primary objectives of digitalization

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has emphasized the importance of combating corruption as a primary objective of digitalization at the Maldives 2.0 Digital Transformation Summit.

Addressing the function held at Barceló Nasandhura Malé, the President expressed gratitude to Estonia's government for its successful digital transformation and emphasized the potential of digitalization to fight corruption through enhanced transparency.

Additionally, President Dr Muizzu referred to the establishment of a unified, interoperable ID system enabling citizens to access public and private services, supported by strengthened national cybersecurity architecture. President attributed Estonia's second place on the 2025 World Press Freedom Index to its digital transformation success and hoped that the Maldivian experience would lead to similar accomplishments through responsible and speedy information dissemination. He announced the goal of transforming the workforce through digitalization, with a third of the workforce expected to be employed remotely by 2028.

President Dr Muizzu called for universal support and cooperation in the government's efforts against corruption and urged acceptance in the digital transformation efforts. He assured that the relevant legal framework is under construction and that Maldives 2.0 would be designed to best suit the Maldivian context.

The Vice President, Speaker of Parliament, Chief Justice, members of cabinet and senior State officials in addition to expert representatives from the Estonian government attended tonight’s inaugural session.
